Coloring.at Now Runs on OpenAI GPT Image 2.6 (Flare)
OpenAI released GPT Image 2.6 on November 4, 2026. Every AI tool on Coloring.at now uses gpt-image-2.6-flare, the fast model in the new family. Here is what changed and what stays the same.

OpenAI released GPT Image 2.6 on November 4, 2026, and Coloring.at has already moved over. The photo to coloring page converter, drawing to character, Draw Live and the colorizer now all run on gpt-image-2.6-flare. Two months ago we switched to GPT Image 2.5; this is the next step in the same family.
What is GPT Image 2.6?
GPT Image 2.6 is OpenAI’s newest image generation and editing model family. In ChatGPT it is called Images 2.6. For developers it comes as two API models:
- gpt-image-2.6-flare: the fast model, built for quick iteration.
- gpt-image-2.6-sunburst: the detail model, which OpenAI says keeps details more consistent from one edit to the next at medium or high quality.
OpenAI says both new models generate images about 50% faster than the previous generation, and that Flare can return an image in as little as six seconds at low quality. The release also brings image markup to the API, so an app can point to the exact area that should change, and a new complexity setting that controls how much planning the model does before it draws.
Why we picked Flare again
Every Coloring.at tool is an edit: you give us a photo or a drawing, and the model changes its style while keeping what matters, like the lines of your child’s drawing or the layout of a family photo. Speed matters a lot here, because there is usually a child waiting for the result. Flare is the fast model, and our pages are mostly clean line art, where Flare’s quality is a good fit. Sunburst stays an option for later if we add tools that need many edits to the same picture.
What you may notice
- Shorter waits: generations should finish sooner, especially on the coloring page and colorize tools.
- Coloring pages: the same clean outlines you are used to, made from your photo with less waiting.
- Drawing to character and Draw Live: your child’s shapes, proportions and quirks are still the starting point for every character.
- Colorize: color fills that follow the original black lines.
Results will not be identical to before. A new model draws a little differently, so if a picture comes out in a way you do not like, try again or use a clearer photo. Our guide to photographing kids’ art for AI helps with the second part.
What we have not added (yet)
ChatGPT’s Images 2.6 also makes animated GIFs and remembers reference images of people, pets and characters. Those are ChatGPT features, and they are not part of Coloring.at today. Image markup and the complexity setting are now available to developers, and we are looking at whether they can make edits more precise for drawings with lots of small details. If we add any of them, we will write about it here.
Try it now
The switch is live for everyone. Turn a photo into a coloring page or turn a drawing into a character, and you are already using GPT Image 2.6. New accounts still get free credits to try it out.
